Windows 2000 Dial-Up Setup
Setting up your NTS dial-up Internet connection on Windows 2000 is a breeze with the following tutorial. When you're done with the initial setup, you'll need to configure your connection. Please remember that if you're located outside of the Pekin, Illinois calling area, you'll need to add @ntslink.net to your username at the appropriate step. The tutorial will remind you when you reach that step.

STEP 1
Click the Windows Start button, select Settings and left-click the Network Connections menu item in the resulting menu.

STEP 2
Double-left-click the Make New Connection icon. A new window will appear for Step 3.

STEP 3
The Network Connections Wizard appears. This first screen is simply an introduction. When you're ready to move on, click Next.

STEP 4
Because we'll be connecting to the Internet via a modem, which is a dial-up device, we'll be selecting Dial-Up to the Internet. This is done by clicking the empty circle (called a "radio button") next to the appropriate option. The circle will be filled if you did this correctly. When ready, click Next to continue.

STEP 5
Click the radio button next to I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN). When you're ready to proceed, click Next.

STEP 6
Click the radio button next to I connect through a phone line and a modem. As we are only focusing on dial-up services in this tutorial, we will not be exploring the local area connection option. When you're ready to proceed, click Next.

STEP 7
Input your access number in the telephone field. If you need an access number for your location, click here. Click Next when you're finished filling out your access number.

Tech Tip: You should only checkmark Use area code and dialing rules if you know your access number is a long distance number.

STEP 8
Fill in the Username and Password fields according to the information you supplied during the signup process. Click Next when you're ready to move on.

Note: If you're outside the Pekin, Illinois calling area, please insert @ntslink.net after your username in the username field.

STEP 9
Type your desired connection name in the Connection name field. Click Next to proceed when you're ready.

Tech Tip: The connection name can be whatever you want. We suggest something simple and easy to remember, like MyNTS, for when you want to find it later.

STEP 10
Click the radio button next to No for setting up an Internet mail account. If you would like to know more about setting up your email account, you can find that information here. When you're ready to proceed, click Next.

STEP 11
Congratulations. You're half done. Click the Finish button to exit the wizard.
